Lay Eucharistic Ministries (L.E.M.)

Lay Eucharist ministers participate in the worship service by reading designated Bible lessons and assisting in Holy Communion by distributing the wine.  They are also trained to visit the sick and home bound to bring the consecrated bread and wine to those who cannot attend church.

Eucharistic ministers are persons chosen by the priest as persons of faith who are dedicated to their ministries, exhibit a spiritual maturity, and have a good reputation in the local congregation.  In addition to training in the local church, they must attend a diocesan workshop entitled “Keeping God’s People Safe,” which has to do with sexual harassment in different age groups.  A background check is also performed before final approval by the Bishop.
